Creating a Timeline


A Timeline displays events in chronological order, sourced from Calendars. You can adjust the date range and group events using swimlanes based on criteria like Environment, Category, or Calendar. In this article, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to create a Timeline. For detailed information about Timelines, refer to the Timeline Core Concepts article.


Creating a Timeline

  1. On a Timeline Page, click the View Browser.

  2. Click + Create Timeline.

  3. Select one of the following Templates:

    1. Blank Timeline: Start from scratch with a blank timeline.

    2. Issues Timeline: Display and manage versions of your Jira projects on a timeline.

Setting up a Blank Timeline

  1. Enter a descriptive Name for your new Timeline.

  2. Once created, you can fully customize and manage the timeline to meet your needs.

Important

  • You need at least View Calendar permission to add a calendar to a timeline.

  • You need Create Calendars global permission to create new calendars.

Note that setting up a new calendar depends on its specific Calendar Type.

Setting up an Issues Timeline

  1. Enter a descriptive Name for the new Timeline.

  2. Select a Jira Project.

  3. Choose the Issue Type.

  4. Select a Start Date.

  5. Optionally, you can select the relevant Version(s).

  6. Choose the key fields you want to display.

  7. Click Done.

You can repeat this process to add more issue types you want to track.

  1. Define the timeline timespan using the date range units:

    • y (year), M (month), w (week), h (hour)

    • For example: -2w for two weeks in the past or +2M for two months in the future.

  2. Click Create.
